If the property is in one of the service areas listed further down this page, it isn't a remote inspection — that area's own page covers how scheduling works there. This page is for everything else: fly-in and boat-access communities, cabins beyond the end of the road, and homes that run on their own systems, where travel has to be arranged case by case.

Those systems are much of what is different. Remote homes may run on a generator or other off-grid power, draw water from a well or a hauled-water tank, and heat with fuel oil or wood. Foundations are often post-and-pad or pilings rather than a full basement. We note which of these a property relies on and their visible condition, and refer anything outside a standard home inspection — off-grid power systems in particular — to a specialist, because a problem in any one of them is harder and more expensive to fix where parts and trades have to be flown in.
